About us - Railway engineering innovation & development

The Centre for Railway Innovation and Performance is founded upon a strategic partnership between London Underground, Tube Lines, Metronet Rail, SNCF, Die Bahn, the Department for Transport, and the Materials and Engineering Research Institute. The partnership brings together a unique network of experience and innovative capability.

A key focus of the partners is to demonstrate the capacity to bring innovative and cost effective railway engineering solutions to market, within a risk adverse industry, using short development cycles. Solutions are derived from developments within railway good-practice and the development / amalgamation of existing and emerging cross-sector technology innovations. The work is expected to complement the European railway research effort and demonstrate the need for greater cross-sector innovation between different industries.

'Research guarantees the future growth of the railway industry. Innovation ensures that these advances are undertaken at an economic and sustainable pace.'
