The Global Railway Innovation Network (GRIN)

The Global Railway Innovation Network enables a step change in railway performance with the provision of an international and intelligent open access innovation platform with the capacity to identify cross-sector industry solutions for railway engineering problems.

This provides a platform that combines and evolves cross-sector innovations to address the operational challenges emerging across the railway supply chain. Drawing on advances within other industrial sectors, the platform captures, restructures and evolves new railway applications from cross-sector innovations. Good-practice and technology innovations are drawn from the nuclear, automotive, aerospace, defence and energy sectors. This system is novel and is expected to accelerate the development of a vibrant cross-sector business ecosystem.

Users access the network through one of four principal Gateways:

  • Gateway 1: - define the railway problem
  • Gateway 2: - define an innovative technology or good practice system
  • Gateway 3: - register your skills to support specific innovation teams
  • Gateway 4: - evolve a cross-sector solution to a railway problem
